Alex Patton to share Ozean Interactive Story

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

I have decided to share Ozean’s story.  The story of the creation of Ozean Media, its transformation from a traditional advertising agency located in Gainesville, FL to an interactive advertising agency serving the world, and the entire story in between.

It is going to be a difficult process for me.  If you know me, I am a private person, but I have been encouraged to share this story by people I trust and respect.

I am going to share the story on a page on Ozean’s website.  You can find that page here.

I ask for your patience, as I anticipate this being a difficult process.  Godspeed.

Video Production, Gainesville, FL

Friday, March 26th, 2010

I am inspired to make a list of things that I have come to dislike during the video production process:

10.  ”I know I didn’t tell you, but…..”

9.   “I want it to look just like [Verizon, Publix, insert any national client] ’s ad,  and my video production budget is $1,000.

8.   “Can you make my logo be on fire?”

7.  ”Can you make my logo bigger?”  Make My Logo Bigger Cream {Awesome video}

6.  ”My cousin is a GREAT actor/actress……”

5.  ”I really want to use the Rolling Stones as the background music”

4.  ”Can I come sit and watch you edit?”

3.  ”I am prepared to spend $1,000,000 on the purchase of media, but my production budget is $2,000″

2.  ”That shouldn’t never take you 30 hours, my nephew can make a video in 1 and put it on You Tube.”

1.  ”Just one more small change…….”

I-phone apps are a fad - Mobile Web is the next thing!

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

I almost started a fight on twitter. I said something to the affect that “I-phone apps are a fad”.  Boy did I get some interesting DMs on that one. I never knew I was such an idiot!

My point is that applications are the rage now.  However, they are expensive and there is a glut of applications.

Why would a company want to limit their market?  For example, Ozean’s designers - I-phone fanatics.  Ozean’s Sales - Blackberry fanatics.  Ozean’s developers stood in line for Androids.

Instead of building platform specific applications (one for I-phone, one for BB, one for Android) - why wouldn’t you invest the same amount of money OR less to insure that your website works on a mobile web platform?  That way anyone with any phone and any browser would be able to access your company’s offerings.

True, it is not as sexy right now and the mobile browsers still have a way to go - but that is the next logical step.  Breaking away from a platform specific application to a mobile browser experience.

I found this article on usability tips for mobile web site design.and I thought I would share it in closing.

Link to story

Cisco made headlines today announcing a next generation router that will revolutionize the internet by increasing downloads to unheard of speeds.  The Cisco press release makes the following claims about the CRS-3 router:

It enables the entire printed collection of the Library of Congress to be downloaded in just over one second; every man, woman and child in China to make a video call, simultaneously; and every motion picture ever created to be streamed in less than four minutes.

BRILLIANT! How to use video on the web

Link to > OK Go - This too shall pass

Directed by James Frost, OK Go and Syyn Labs. Produced by Shirley Moyers. The official video for the recorded version of “This Too Shall Pass” off of the album “Of the Blue Colour of the Sky”.

I have watched this 4 times, and I am still amazed at this video on the web. The timing, the video shots, the brilliance of this video can not be overstated.

I am in awe, and you must watch it now! Click the link above.

This is link to a CNN story on the making of the video

An excerpt from the story:

“For nearly four minutes — captured in a single, unbroken camera shot (my emphasis added) — the machine rolls metal balls down tracks, swings sledgehammers, pours water, unfurls flags and drops a flock of umbrellas from the second story, all perfectly synchronized with the song.” source CNN.com
